Istanbul, September 30th, 2010. The Turkish MS Society did exactly what we had in mind when we devised our mission: used our stop in Turkey to draw media attention to the needs of its MS community.
We were impressed right of the bat by the fact that the President of the Turkish MS society drove 1 hour from Istanbul to greet us as we landed close to midnight in one of the cities small airports.
The following day we flew to Hezafen, a small general aviation airport spectacularly located. There, two TV crews awaited, along with people with MS. After a couple of flights we battled Istanbul’s notorious traffic to attend a press conference in the city’s center.
At the press conference there were well-known celebrities, TV crews, including CNN, other journalists and representatives from the city hall. The Fly for MS logo was everywhere: the Turkish MS Society understood the potential of our mission to draw media attention and used it wisely. We talked about the needs of the MS community in Turkey, about our mission, and of course about the Society’s main project.
Later in the day we stopped at the Bloomberg TV studios for a live appearance.
